Child Hope International & Thirst Relief International Journey to Haiti
Port-au-Prince, Haiti
January 24-31, 2014

:: the Mission
In a team of 20, I (Melanie) will be travelling to an orphanage right outside of Port-au-Prince called Child Hope International. We will be on a Thirst Journey with Thirst Relief International in support of the Haiti Filter Project. Also will be sharing and teaching our skills to further help children run their businesses, uniting in Christ, and much more!

100% of the proceeds go toward Child Hope International & Haiti Filter Project!

:: facts on Haiti
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and has experienced a great deal of political violence throughout its history. On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti and devastated the capital city Port-au-Prince. Reportedly, more than 200,000 people were killed, although the exact number is unknown. Even before the 2010 earthquake, nearly half the causes of death have been attributed to HIV/AIDS, respiratory infections, meningitis and diarrheal diseases, including cholera and typhoid. According to the World Health Organization, 90% of Haiti's children suffer from water-borne diseases and intestinal parasites.

:: my Journey
Personally I'm enthusiastic to not only be flexible however the Lord needs me in Port-au-Prince, but to explore with my camera and document the journey and children of Child Hope International in Haiti.

Prior to even knowing about this trip, I was seeking out ways to serve those desperately in need, to do more than I do now, to get away from the comforts of a first world country. I was searching, but no doors opened.. Late one evening this past May, was talking to my sister-in-law and out-of-the-blue this opportunity presented itself. Not only am I thrilled to be going with my SIL and 13 other successful photographers, but even more stoked for the experience to genuinely help those in need! I am positive that I will come away from this opportunity with more than I could give!

I would love to have you follow along as I will be updating and posting images, video and my personal experiences from this life-changing trip this January!

I thank you to the moon and back for your generosity and support!

:: further Information
INFORMATION ON CHILD HOPE INTERNATIONAL:
Child Hope International is a Christian organization located in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, that exists to provide orphaned, abandoned and needy children with physical, educational, spiritual and personal care through homes, programs and ministries that are centered on the love and knowledge of Christ Jesus.

Child Hope has a boys home and girls home called Maison de Lumiere (The Lighthouse) with a total of 52 children. The homes offer the children love, a family, a place of growth, healing, preparation, worship, and hope.

Child Hope also runs a K-6 grade school where our children and 30 neighborhood children enjoy a free, quality education. Our older kids attend various Haitian schools. When our children age out of the orphanage, they go through our transition program that helps them build vocational and microbusiness skills to be able to thrive independently. Additionally, Child Hope is active in meeting the needs of the local community; providing a free medical clinic twice a week and continuing to help rebuild homes that were destroyed during the earthquake. Lastly, we also run a feeding program three days a week for 130 neighbourhood children. These kids not only get fed physically, but also get to worship the Lord together and are able to hear the Gospel preached. We are seeing hurting hearts healed and children transformed by the love of Christ, shining as His lights in their country. We rejoice and marvel at the work God is doing in Haiti!

INFORMATION ON THIRST RELIEF INTERNATIONAL:
Thirst Relief International is a water development organization working to improve access to safe water in nine countries worldwide. Founded in 2005, Thirst Relief works with its implementing partners to launch and sustain water projects in impoverished rural areas and urban slum communities. By providing infrastructure development, training, and financial and technical resources to our partners, we are helping thousands of people each year improve their health through safe drinking water. Without Thirst Relief's support, and the generosity of our donors, many of these water projects would never come into being.
