Helping Families in Uganda Achieve a Better Life

Donation protected
Uganda is a country of startling contrasts - a beautiful landscape of forests and mountains that is home to a rich diversity of birds and animals including half the world's population of mountain gorillas.

Unfortunately, the people  of Uganda are the poorest of the poor. Primarily subsistence farmers, one third of the people live on less than $1.25 a day and almost half of them are children under the age of  fifteen.

Beginning at the end of January, I am volunteering to spend a month in a rural village teaching woodworking and making videos at the Bududa Learning Center, a charity that strives to help local people achieve a better life.

The Bududa Learning Center was established fifteen years ago and offers three programs in support of young adults, women, and children.

The Bududa Vocational Academy is a full-time secondary academy teaching technical skills and trades to young men and women. Without this training, the residents of Bududa have little chance of finding work and are dependent on subsistence farming to feed themselves and their families.

The Bududa Women’s Development Group is a micro loan and business training program. This program gives women new self esteem and the opportunity to establish a small business and supplement the family income.

The birth rate in Uganda is one of the highest in the world and almost half the population is under 15 years of age. Families have been devastated by AIDS .The Children of Bududa is a sponsorship program providing vital health care, education, and social services support to orphans and vulnerable children.

The funds raised by this  campaign will partially cover the travel, preventive medicine, and video equipment expenses necessary to volunteer for  a month in Bududa teaching woodworking and making videos in support of the Learning Center.

Bududa is a isolated, rural village without reliable electricity or clean water. Your support pays for the long flight and overland travel to get to the village. It will enable me to have vaccinations for Yellow Fever, Typhoid, Hepatitis, and Meningitis and medications for Malaria and Dysentery.  It will partially cover the cost of the light weight, high quality, portable video and sound equipment that will be used to create  and later edit education and training videos for the Bududa Learning Center.

If the campaign goes over its the goal, any extra money will be donated to the Bududa Learning Center to support the important programs of the Bududa Learning Center.

I am leaving for Uganda on January 28, 2020. When I return from Uganda, I will be eager to show my gratitude for your support by screening the videos and speaking to community groups and schools about the people of Bududa and the remarkable work done by the Bududa Learning Center.

As as filmmaker, my focus has always been documentaries that explore social issues and seek to understand individuals and their culture. My background as an Executive Producer for Public Television and a adjunct faculty member in communication departments at multiple universities has taught me how to maximize limited resources and provide viewers with important insight and understanding of challenging subjects.

If you have any questions about the Learning Center, my activities while I am in Bududa, or any other  aspect of this project, please write to me or, if you prefer, send me your phone number and I will be happy to call you to chat.

A donation in any amount is very much appreciated and will help me to help the people of Bududa to achieve a better future.
