Helping Eva with surgery!

Update - May 9, 2023. My mom is in the hospital in Montreal. They did a scope yesterday to plan for surgery Wednesday. The scope results were not great. The tumour has grown and there are really only a few options. 1) continue just lasering it partially every few weeks. 2) remove as much of the tumour as they can without hitting the nerves. 3) remove the whole this with risk of hitting the nerves and never being able to talk again/have a tube in her throat forever.

My mom has never drank, smoked, she is active with outdoor gardening etc. and they don’t know how or why she got this tumour the doctors just say it’s bad luck. So now she has to decide what to do. Unsure if they do even remove part of it, will it grow back. How long she will have to be in the hospital or have to continue going back. Unfortunately I don’t feel like she got the best care here in NS compared to the few days she’s been in Montreal.

Hi, my name is Jenn and I have started this fundraiser for my mom, Eva.

She has been diagnosed with 'Tracheal Inflammatory Myofibroblastoma' which is a rare tumour of the Trachea. Currently, the tumour is noncancerous but it is growing rapidly. In the last month in a half, she has had laser surgery 3 times. The laser surgery only removed a portion of the tumour because it is in her airway and 1 cm away from her vocal cords. Each time it grows back she can't breath and she is in the hospital for weeks at a time waiting on oxygen to get surgery.

She is in need to get it fully removed but because the tumour is so rare, there are only a few doctors who do this surgery. The doctors say that if the tumour is in her body for a long period of time it can become cancerous.

We are running into issues getting surgery because there are no doctors in Nova Scotia to do it.

Last Thursday my mom was told she would get surgery in Montreal the next day and she would be transferred by air. Friday comes and she's greeted by a social worker who told her she is well enough to find her own way to Montreal and she needs to be there today or she loses her spot. Then she was told she actually can’t go because she needs to be approved by Nova Scotia Health first and they only cover a portion of the travel and surgery expenses.

That is the reason I have started this fundraiser. My mom is not one to ask for help, ever, but we have come to this point. If we don’t get the approval we will need to cover the entire cost on our own which would be a significant amount more. Right now we just need help with the travel and hospital expenses.

My mom, who has 5 grandkids just wants to be able to breathe so she can play with them again.
