Last month, one of our own was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. In addition, she is also expecting her second child and this devastating news has affected her and her family in more ways than one. During her pregnancy, she will undergo several chemo treatments, which will take a toll on her body and finances due to travel. She will have to deliver her baby boy at 32 weeks and then immediately undergo a bilateral mastectomy. Of course, this means that baby will be in the NICU for quite some time and Niasia will be recovering from delivery as well as surgery.

Niasia has been a 9-1-1 Communications Officer at the ESVA 9-1-1 Center since 2019, answering thousands of calls for service to complete strangers. She was the 2022 recipient of the ESVA 9-1-1 Communications Officer of the Year Award and has received numerous other awards over the years for her dedication and performance as a 9-1-1 Communications Officer. She is now the one needing help from anyone who is able. Niasia also has a 9-year-old daughter who will still need her mom. With the holidays quickly approaching, travel expenses, routine bills and expenses, in addition to incoming medical bills, and the unknown, we are asking for any assistance that can be provided to help off-set this devastating burden.
