Medical expenses for Elderly Mom

Donation protected
My Brother and I are trying to raise money to help with my Mother's medical expenses, health care and yes, when the time comes, funeral arrangements.
I must admit this is very hard for me.  It seems wrong in so many ways to ask others for help but at this time, We have to do what we can to help our Mom who is 85 years old.
The last few Months have been very hard on her and our Family.  Mom has been in and out of the Hospital as well as a rehabilitation center and her health continues to fail.
Doctor's tell my Brother and I that the top part of her heart is not working(nothing they can do about it) which is the reason she is always so weak.
After spending almost two months in the Hospital, she was sent to a rehabilitation center so they could help her build her strength so she could walk again.  After spending 2 weeks there, she came home and in two days she fell and was back in the Hospital. She is still there now.  Her heart is failing, she has trouble breathing, is very weak and needs assistance at all times.  Fluid seems to keep building up around her heart and her lungs so that is an ongoing concern.
I want to share some stories about my Mom but first I want to let you know what we would be using any donations for.
My Mom's name is Lee.  I promised her a long time ago that I would never put her in a nursing home. We have had this discussion many times.    Somehow, the time has creeped up on me and now the decisions my Brother and I have to make for her are so hard it hurts.
My Mom wants to go home.  It's where she feels safe.  Once the Doctors release her, we want to bring her home.  We want to hire a Nurse or Health Care assistant who can monitor her, sit with her and make sure she eats and drinks.  Someone who can watch over her and make her comfortable.  Someone that has a medical background who can help her if something happens.
Any donations would go to paying for this health care provider during the day and we would make sure someone is with her at night while she is sleeping.
Donations would also help cover Medication, Hospital equipment and a chair that will help her sit down easier but also lift her when she is ready to get up. Because she is weak, it's a struggle for her to get up and down.
All donations will be used to help with those expenses.  As hard as it is to say, any donations remaining would be used for funeral arrangements.
It is so hard being a Parent to a Parent.  I cannot begin to tell you how much my heart hurts while I am typing this out.
My Mom is an amazing person.  We want to do the best we can for her but we do not have the funds needed for her continued care.  I will find a way to keep my promise to her. So yes, I am hoping you will find it in your hearts to help in any way you can.
No matter how small the donation is, we will appreciate it and use 100% of it to make the time my Mom has left as comfortable as we can.  Is she dying today?  Thank God the answer is NO.  Is she going downhill?  I am sorry to say the answer is yes.  Poor thing, her mind is good (for an 85 year old person)and she has the will to live but her body is breaking down and it is harder and harder for her to control the things that are happening to her.
About my Mom:  As I stated, she is 85 years old.  She was born and raised in New Orleans and she will tell everyone, that's where she wants to die.
She Married a Military Man who was in the Airforce for  over 20 years.  My Mom traveled the world with my Dad.  Along the way, she had 5 Children. I am her youngest although I am not so young anymore..  When I was about 13 my Mom and Dad got divorced.  You didn't hear those words much back then and you never advertized it.
In order to support her Children, my Mom worked at F.W. Woolworths for over 40 years.  She never missed a day and when it was time for her to retire, it broke her heart.  See my Mom dropped out of School when she was young to help support her Mother and siblings.  She started at Woolworth's as a Cashier and worked her way up to Personal Director.  That was a BIG position back then and she will proudly tell you she made $11 an hour doing it.
We did not have a lot of money but we never knew it.  My Mom made sure we had what we needed.  We were poor, I mean poor.  My Mom made sure we went to  School, did our School work, cleaned the house without complaining and when the time came, we went to work.  My Mom passed on her strong  work ethic to me and my Brother.  We learned from her.
Mom has helped all her Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.  She loves her family so much.  I love how her face lights up when she sees us.  She may not remember Birthdays as well as she use to but let me tell you something, she loves everyone of us with her whole heart.  She embraces our friends, her friends and anyone who needs a friend.  She is one awesome Mom and we are lucky to have her in our lives.
Mom had a Massive Heart Attack before Hurricane Katrina, lost her house because of Hurricane Katrina and lost her oldest Son to Cancer. She was  always so strong and found a way to get through it. She helped us through it all.  We are so blessed that God picked her to be our Mother/Grandmother/Great Grandmother/Aunt/Sister and Cousin.
I could go on and on but I just wanted to give you a little insight as to who my Mom really is.

Please know that putting all of this out there is very hard to do but my Brother and I would do anything for our Mom.  She has always been there for us and now it is our time to be there for her.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  If you are unable to help us I truly understand.  You could help us by passing this along to your friends and family who may be able to help.

If you know our family, thank you for being a part of our lives.  If you don't know us, please know we are honest, hard working people who want to give back to the Woman who gave us so much.

May God Bless You All,
Merry Christmas!
