Help Zambian girls achieve their full potential

Donation protected
No girl should have to miss out on school because of her period.

However, thousands of girls in rural Zambia face this challenge due to limited access to menstrual hygiene products. This prevents girls from reaching their full potential inside and outside the classroom, with long term knock on effects for their communities as well as for individuals.

Girls in remote areas often resort to using torn strips of fabric or scrap paper during their periods, increasing the risk of infection and pain. Beliefs and traditions around menstruation differ culturally between tribes and regions across Zambia. But many girls associate their periods with shame and isolation from their families and the community. Some girls are in school for three weeks and out for a week. You can imagine the long-term impact on their education and self-confidence.

That’s where the Baobuyu Community Centre's ‘Reusable Pad Campaign’ comes in. We want to give vulnerable girls around Livingstone the resources they need to make their periods less risky to their health, more comfortable and the normal part of life they should be.

Our initial goal is £1000 which will provide over a hundred girls with reusable pads, made by Baobuyu’s wonderful ‘Sewing Circle’. We will also offer materials, alongside training on how to create their own pads, to girls in the remotest communities.

Your support will turn this dream into a reality.

Let’s break the silence around periods and let girls be girls, achieveing their full potential and taking forward their communities!
