Help Wilkes Central fund a community garden

Hello everyone, Our names are Taylor Edwards and Riley Huffman. We are students at Wilkes Central High School, who are starting a community garden project. The community garden will be located on our school's campus. We will grow and donate vegetables to the food bags that go home with students and the homeless shelter in our county.

Our goal is to sustainably grow our crops by using methods such as drip irrigation, integrated pest management, crop rotation, legume planting, etc. Sustainability is an important aspect of our project as we care about minimizing our impact on the environment when creating and managing our garden.

Our community garden center will not only provide a sustainable food source and foster community engagement, but it will also help support our high school's science department. We plan to create a school club focused on the garden center, which will provide students with the opportunity to learn about sustainable agriculture practices and gain hands-on experience in the garden. Our garden center club will be open to all high school students, and we plan to work closely with our school's staff to ensure that the club aligns with the school's curriculum. We also plan to offer after school educational opportunities for students and community members, including workshops, presentations, and garden tours.

We are looking for funding to help us acquire the following:

-Gardening tools and equipment

-Raised Garden Beds

-Seeds

-Drip irrigation system

-Composting bin

-Educational Programming

-Management funds

This project is really important for our school as it will provide hands-on opportunities for students to learn about sustainable agriculture and gardening as well as reducing the impact of food insecurity in our community. By supporting our project, you will not only be helping to create a more sustainable and resilient food system, but also supporting our high school's horticulture and science programs to provide students with valuable hands-on experience.
