We are thrilled that Reem Desouky was released from detention in Egypt at the beginning of May and returned safely home to Lancaster with her middle-school aged son, Moustafa. Many thanks to all who contributed to help cover expenses that built up while she was detained for 10 months. Now that she is home it is clear she will need some support to get back on her feet, especially with reduced work opportunities during the pandemic and limited to no public support options available.
We have set a goal of raising an additional $5,000 ($8,000 total) to help Reem and Moustafa during this time .

Reem Desouky, an American Citizen originally from Egypt, has been detained since last year in Egypt, allegedly for criticizing the Egyptian government. Her son Moustafa, a 13 year old Reynolds Middle School Student has remained in Egypt awaiting her release and is staying with relatives. Reem is a generous and kind person
Many of her neighbors have been writing letters to elected officials in Washington DC to advocate for her release. Neighbors have also been caring for her home in Lancaster City. Please continue to ask our representatives to advocate for her release.
At Reem's request, her immediate neighbor has been caring for her home and managing her finances. She has several bills, including a small credit card balance and annual real estate bills, that have started to add up and currently total just approximately $3,000. We would like to raise these funds to ensure that when she is released, she can come home to a clean slate.
