Help Us Support Our Daughter’s Fight for Life

Hi, my name is Kay and I am finally gaining the courage to reach out. Our daughter came into this world at just 28 weeks and one day tiny, unexpected, and fighting for her life from the very start. After her premature birth, we learned she had a congenital heart block caused by SSA antibodies something I didn’t even know I had until after delivery. She’s also developed a butterfly rash due to neonatal lupus, a heartbreaking reminder that her little body is facing challenges she didn’t ask for.

As a mom, I carry an overwhelming amount of guilt and pain. I didn’t know I had these antibodies, and I wish more than anything I could’ve protected her. It’s a heavy burden not knowing something inside of me would cause her so much suffering. Every day, I’m trying to figure out how to fight this battle for her, how to be strong for her, and how to give her the best chance at life.

She's now been in the NICU for over three months, and recently had her first pacemaker surgery. This device will need to be replaced every 2 to 3 years, meaning a lifetime of repeated surgeries and medical expenses. So far, our bills have already climbed over $45,000, and even with UnitedHealthcare and Melina Medicaid through the state of Florida, support is limited. We’re left struggling with what insurance doesn’t cover while also caring for our other child, paying for daycare, managing household expenses, and trying to hold everything together emotionally and financially.

We’re doing our best, but the weight of this is crushing. We fear the long-term consequences of this debt and what it might mean for our family’s future. We don’t want our children to suffer more because of unpaid medical bills we couldn’t control.
