I'm Manuel Freire, 61 year old life long fisherman, a staple of the Jersey Shore fishing community. I own the fishing vessel the Ariana Marie. I absolutely understand the value of hard work and am never shy about helping those in need, or helping the community.
Right now my son and his colleagues in the Emergency department at Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx are completely overwhelmed by the surge of patients during this pandemic. They show up daily, without hesitation, to serve some of the most vulnerable populations. Lincoln Hospital is the busiest single standing emergency department in NYC, and it's only become busier.
There is a world wide shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and as time goes on there will be shortages of other medical equipment required for management of these critical patients.
Everyone is going through tough times financially, emotionally, physically and mentally. I understand people, including myself, want to help but don't know how. We sit isolated in our apartments, unable to physically do anything. What I've learned is the best way to help is keep yourself busy around the house and provide emotional support for our loved ones, friends, family and healthcare workers.
I, however, wanted to take that extra step and start donating financially to hospitals. Lincoln Hospital is part of NYCHHC which is a public health system. This means they don't have a privately owned corporation to back them up financially and serve the under-served. This is where, I feel, we can make the biggest impact and support those on the front lines caring for our loved ones.
I am seeking funding to acquire N95 masks, gowns, face shields, gloves and other medical equipment not only protect my son and his colleagues, but to allow them to provide proper medical care in a safe environment.

A clear explanation of how the donations will be spent: 100% of donations will be provided to the doctors working at Lincoln Hospital to equip themselves, and their supporting staff (nurses physicians, ancillary staff) with the appropriate equipment to get them through this crisis.
Your plan to get the campaign’s donations to the intended recipient(s): the funds will be directly credited to Lincoln Hospital's Emergency Medicine residents to distribute among the hospital staff and services. I trust that they will allocate the funds to the resources they need most.
