Goal:
By finishing first place at our state tournament, we have qualified to attend the Destination Imagination Global Finals. Please help us fund our team costs to attend Global Finals for Destination Imagination in Kansas City, MO May 22-25, 2024. Funds raised will go toward the $5,500 entry fee and travel expenses.
Who We Are: Pig Meet Bacon!
A team of five kids that met in elementary school last year through Destination Imagination. During our first year as a team we were successful building lasting friendships. We also had a successful competition season. At the Regional Tournament we took first place and earned the Renaissance Award for creating an original song. And we placed third at our State Competition. We were excited that we qualified for Global Finals in our first year competing, but we were unable to attend due to financial constraints.
Our first year as a team was such a positive experience that we decided to keep our team together for a second year. This year, we aged up to the Middle School Category and set our team goal for the season to qualify and attend Global Finals! We are off to a strong start toward our goal this year. We won first place at the Regional Competition, winning another Renaissance Award for our unique map as well as a Best Team Name Award. And at the 2024 Colorado State Tournament, we took FIRST PLACE - which earned us an invitation to the Global Finals Tournament.
This year our Team Competition was the Service Learning Project. The service learning project is a project where you define a community need and then create a project to help address that need. For the competition, we had to create a fantasy story about a character on a quest, and also weave in details about your service project. Our team did a food drive at our school to collect canned food and toiletries. We donated to an organization called Family Promise of Greater Denver who works with families experiencing homelessness to help them obtain permanent stability. We successfully collected 425 goods from our food drive.
What is DI:
Destination Imagination (DI) is a project based, kid-driven program that teaches kids to be innovative problem solvers and learn to work as a team. Teams compete in Team Challenges and Instant Challenges. Kids use STEAM principles to solve Team Challenges. They collaborate, think outside the box and create unique solutions to solve one of seven different challenges in preparation for a fun, problem-solving competition. For Instant Challenges teams practice the same skills as Team Challenges, but over a much shorter time frame - usually about 5-10 minutes. Teams will be asked to work together to solve a brief challenge in front of a panel of Appraisers, and they will be evaluated on the creativity, teamwork, and effectiveness of their solution. What if We Have Extra Funds:
In the fortunate event we raise more than our goal - excess funds raised will jump start our team fundraising efforts for next year. If the team disbands for any reason, any balance of funds we have raised will either go to other Littleton DI teams or go to the not-for-profit we partnered with for our Team Competition: Family Promise of Greater Denver. https://www.fpgd.org
