Written by Nina Slesinger and directed by Sammy Zeisel, The Care and Keeping of You is a deceptively simple movie about a twelve year old girl who gets her period for the first time at her friend's birthday party. She is ushered through this rite of passage by her friend's intimidating older sister, and the two women share a meaningful experience that subtly changes them both. It is a quiet film about growing up, anxiety, and the surprising ways we are able to be there for each other.
Sammy and Nina funded the production themselves but are hoping to raise an additional $1,000 for post-production finishing touches: color correction, sound mixing, original music, and festival submissions (yes, submitting to festivals costs a lot of money!).
If you give, we will put your name in the credits, personally send you a finished cut of the film (which is kinda cool because it will be password protected from the general public for the next year or so), keep you updated on the film's festival progress, and be so grateful to you.
We believe in stories that realistically portray characters and relationships that have been traditionally under-represented and films that move at the pace of life. We believe in this movie, and we hope that you will believe in it, too.
