We are asking for your support to help my sister’s family through an incredibly challenging time. They are dealing with the aftermath of a tragic automobile accident that has left them facing overwhelming legal and medical expenses. To date, they have incurred nearly $95,000 in legal fees, expert accident reconstruction costs, and travel expenses. Additionally, around $10,000 worth of personally purchased medical supplies was damaged beyond repair in the crash. These devices support my medically complex nephew, Brendan, and allow him to travel and explore the world. They include a travel nebulizer, suction device, pulse oximeter, and a life-saving portable concentrator that provides oxygen when he’s away from home. Sadly, the family cannot afford to replace these critical supplies while grappling with substantial legal and travel expenses.

Background on the Incident: In July 2023, Rick, Nikki, their two children Brendan and Sarah, and our mother, Gena, were returning from our grandfather’s funeral in California when their lives changed forever. Their van was involved in a head-on collision with an uninsured motorcycle which was traveling at high speed. Miraculously, all five of our family members survived. Tragically, the motorcyclist did not survive. Gena and Sarah were transported to the hospital by ambulance. Rick, Nikki, and Brendan were each airlifted for emergency care. Gena spent six days in the hospital. All of them continue to deal with the resulting physical injuries and trauma from this horrific accident. The legal proceedings related to this accident continue, requiring them to travel to California for every hearing. Mounting legal expenses include multiple retainer fees exceeding $30,000, costs for hiring an accident reconstruction expert and other experts exceeding $20,000. Travel expenses for each hearing include airfare, rental car, and hotel accommodations for five mandatory court appearances. This issue is likely to continue in court for another 6-12 months, so the legal and travel expenses will continue.
