Help Us Build a Youth Boxing Program for Low-Income Kids in San Mateo
Goal: $6,000
Our Mission
My name is Jason Lao, and I am a junior at Aragon High School. I’ve been training with Coach Val Pryor at B Street Boxing for over four years, and boxing has had a powerful impact on my life. Now, I want to help bring that same opportunity to younger kids in our community.
I’m raising $6,000 to establish a weekly youth boxing program for low-income youth ages 8–14 at B Street Boxing Gym in San Mateo. This program will serve 8–10 kids and provide them with access to high-quality coaching, mentorship, and a safe, positive space to grow.
Why Boxing Matters
Training with Coach Val has taught me far more than how to box. I’ve learned:
• Physical skills like speed, footwork, agility, strength, and endurance
• Mental skills like grit, focus, strategy, discipline, and confidence
These lessons have helped me both inside and outside the gym—in school, in life, and in how I carry myself every day. I believe every child deserves the chance to build these skills, regardless of their financial situation.
The Program
• Free weekly boxing classes held at B Street Boxing Gym
• Led by Coach Val Pryor, an experienced coach and mentor
• I will assist Coach Val during classes
• All equipment will be provided, so there is no cost barrier for families
• Focus on boxing fundamentals, fitness, discipline, and confidence-building
This program is about creating structure, community, and opportunity for kids who may not otherwise have access to organized sports or mentorship.
How Your Donation Helps
Your support will directly fund:
• Coaching and instruction
• Gym access and class operation
• Equipment for youth participants
• A consistent, safe program for low-income families
Every dollar goes toward building a program that supports youth development, physical health, and positive mentorship.
Why Your Support Matters
For many kids, a program like this can be life-changing. Boxing provides:
• A healthy outlet for energy and stress
• Strong role models and mentorship
• A sense of belonging, discipline, and self-belief
With your help, we can give kids in San Mateo a place to train, grow, and build confidence—both in the gym and beyond.
