UPDATE Please use this link for our new fundraiser: Emergency Trip 1 Fundraiser
We have a dire, DIRE situation on our hands, made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic. CB Rescue Foundation is a small foster based, non-profit organization in Calgary, Alberta helping dogs both locally and internationally. We are partnered with Collares Rojos in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic, who have been hit INCREDIBLY hard.
Dog abuse and overpopulation has already been a serious issue in the region, but we have never seen such an enormous amount of death and suffering of animals on the streets. Lack of tourism has left thousands of dogs starving. Collares Rojos is overcrowded, simply unable to take in any more dogs. Additionally, donations have decreased substantially to both of our rescues, and there seems to be little hope in sight.
We have to act now. Air Transat is still flying dogs from the Dominican Republic to Toronto, and then to Calgary as well. Flight angels are very hard to find, and it is much more expensive to fly them in cargo without one - ~$550CDN a dog!! This is an enormous amount of money for us, but we will do what has to be done, and save as many as we can.
THESE DOGS CAN NO LONGER WAIT. The more dogs we can bring here and find homes for, the more dogs Collares Rojos can afford to continue helping – with food, vaccinations, spay & neuter, medical treatment and shelter.
Every day more dogs are dying, and borders will NOT stop us from helping the dogs that suffer through no fault of their own.
[ WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR ]
We are in serious need of funds for transporting as many dogs as we are able to Toronto, then to Calgary. We have flown over 20 dogs since this fundraiser started, and doing our best to transport more, but unfortunately we are constantly lacking donations and struggling to make up the difference.
- Transport with flight angel is $100-200CDN/dog per flight, and without a flight angel is $550CDN/dog per flight
- We also need to occasionally purchase crates to transport the dogs, $50-150CDN each
- We try and help with food and vet care for these dogs (and many others!) as much as possible, so more can continue being saved!
[ WHO ARE THESE DOGS? ]
The dogs coming to Calgary will all be from our partner rescue Collares Rojos. We have found homes for dozens of dogs from Yanela's wonderful shelter in the past, and our founders fly at least once a year to help.
All dogs will already be spayed/neutered, have all the necessary vaccinations and health checks before arriving to Canada.
The dogs shown are just some of the rescues living at the shelter currently. The exact dogs that will be flying on the first trip will be determined closer to the date, depending on the funds raised.
[ WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP ]
Although we are a small rescue, we have helped over 250 dogs find homes since 2017. We are DESPERATELY trying to help in any way we can, especially in this incredibly difficult time. Unfortunately, our recurring monthly donations are barely more than $200/month, and most of our main fundraising events have had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.
As our organization is volunteer-run, 100% of the donations go towards the dogs. Currently, a significant portion of the costs is being covered out of pocket by the founders, but we could help SO MUCH MORE with some extra help!
[ WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? ]
Dogs love unconditionally, and we believe that every dog deserves to be loved in return, and belong to a forever family. We want to help dogs in need despite their geographical location, because we don’t believe borders should prevent helping those in need.
There are over a million stray animals in the Dominican Republic, with many others living in awful conditions. This overwhelming number makes it very hard to find local homes for many rescues.
Bringing dogs back with us to Canada means that Collares Rojos will be able to spend their funds to help spay/neuter and vaccinate more stray animals (reducing new births and spread of disease), and help dogs in dire medical need.
Here are just some of the success stories that have found their perfect homes through our teamwork:
[ WHO ARE WE? ]
CB Rescue Foundation was founded by Colin and Belinda Morrison in 2017. We partner with other reputable rescues working as a team for the greater good of the dogs, specializing in helping dogs that are in danger of abuse or neglect. We are dedicated to rescuing any dogs in distress no matter the location, age, breed, or ease of placement.
We have a very thorough foster check and adoption process, and continue communicating with all of our adopters. We always want to make sure our rescues are set up to succeed in their homes!

Collares Rojos was founded by Yanela over a decade ago, and has been one of our closest partner rescues. She and her volunteers have helped thousands of dogs in DR with food, shelter and medical care. They have annual spay and neuter events, vaccinate stray animals, and do everything they can to improve conditions for as many animals as they can.

Note: this fundraiser is being managed by Tatiana (Tanya) Funk, a volunteer for CB Rescue Foundation who handles many of our social media interactions.
Thank you to everyone that has read our call for help and shared, donated, or contributed in any way. We might not have the ability to help every dog, but we will always, ALWAYS do what we can to help as many as we are able to.
