Emergency Trip #1 - Help 3 dogs get to Canada

Donation protected
UPDATE: We reached our goal! Please follow our latest Emergency Fundraiser: https://www.gofundme.com/f/emergency-trip-2-help-2-dogs-get-to-canada

CB Rescue Foundation is a small foster based, non-profit organization in Calgary, Alberta helping dogs both locally and internationally. We are partnered with Collares Rojos in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic, who have been hit INCREDIBLY hard by the pandemic - and now the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) has announced that they are banning the import of dogs including foster and adoption from any country with a risk of rabies. This will come into effect September 28th, 2022 and contains dozens of countries that desperately need help when it comes to animal welfare and support.

Unfortunately, this affects our partner rescue Collares Rojos, who still have close to 30 dogs that risk never having a home for the rest of their lives if we don't get them to Canada in the next few months. THESE DOGS CAN NO LONGER WAIT. Collares Rojos will not be able to help more dogs if they can't find homes.

We have brought dozens of dogs from Collares Rojos throughout the years, all of them vetted and tested, with all their vaccinations, spays and neuters, and necessary medical treatment completed. It has been very expensive but CB Rescue has managed... however with 30 dogs, the costs have become insurmountable without A LOT of help from you.

We will run several of these fundraisers for a couple of dogs at a time, and this will be our first.

[ WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR ]
On July 10th, a flight angel will be bringing back Sirius, Ferry, and a third dog (to be determined). A pregnant Chihuahua mix was supposed to come on this flight, but she unfortunately had her babies early and we will need to find an alternate method for her.
  • We will need at least $600 to transport each dog from Punta Cana to Toronto and then Calgary. $1800 total for these first three is our absolute minimum cost. This does not include the tickets for our flight angel, or most necessities. We will do everything we can to cover the rest, but this amount is needed to make this work, and will be needed for the other dogs we bring back as well.

[ WHO ARE THESE DOGS? ]
The dogs coming to Calgary will all be from our partner rescue Collares Rojos. We have found homes for hundreds of dogs from Yanela's wonderful shelter in the past, many amongst our volunteers.

All dogs will already be spayed/neutered, have all the necessary vaccinations and health checks before arriving to Canada.

Sirius: 6 year old male, 40lbs, and 3 legs! Sirius is a perfect dog - very sweet, calm, and lovely. He was found sick and injured on the side of the road, and CB Rescue paid for his amputation.

Ferry: 1 year old female, 27-30lbs. Ferry is super-mega sweet and friendly.

[ WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP ]
As our organization is volunteer-run, 100% of the donations go towards the dogs. Currently, a significant portion of the costs is being covered out of pocket by the founders, but we could help SO MUCH MORE with some extra help!

[ WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? ]
Dogs love unconditionally, and we believe that every dog deserves to be loved in return, and belong to a forever family. We want to help dogs in need despite their geographical location, because we don’t believe borders should prevent helping those in need.

There are over a million stray animals in the Dominican Republic, with many others living in awful conditions. This overwhelming number makes it very hard to find local homes for many rescues.

Bringing dogs back with us to Canada means that Collares Rojos will be able to spend their funds to help spay/neuter and vaccinate more stray animals (reducing new births and spread of disease), and help dogs in dire medical need. While the import ban exists, we will do what we can to work towards a solution that can benefit the animals that need us.

[ WHO ARE WE? ]
CB Rescue Foundation was founded by Colin and Belinda Morrison in 2017. We partner with other reputable rescues working as a team for the greater good of the dogs, specializing in helping dogs that are in danger of abuse or neglect. We are dedicated to rescuing any dogs in distress no matter the location, age, breed, or ease of placement.

We have a very thorough foster check and adoption process, and continue communicating with all of our adopters. We always want to make sure our rescues are set up to succeed in their homes!

Collares Rojos was founded by Yanela over a decade ago, and has been one of our closest partner rescues. She and her volunteers have helped thousands of dogs in DR with food, shelter and medical care. They have annual spay and neuter events, vaccinate stray animals, and do everything they can to improve conditions for as many animals as they can.
