Help Trans Anti-Hunger Advocate Back on His Feet
Spende geschützt
On October 28th, 2021, Max De Faria set out from Vermont to Massachusetts to visit his partner for Halloween weekend. His trip was cut short by a high speed, head-on collision on the highway.
Max suffered a concussion, fractured ankle, broken hip socket, open kneecap fracture, and abdominal hernia. His car, pictured below, is totaled, and his laptop was destroyed in the crash as well. Two emergency rooms, five surgeries, and a week and a half of rehab later, he's finally getting discharged into his family's care, but he has a long way to go before he's fully recovered.
Before the accident, Max was in his first semester at Vermont Law School studying for a Master's degree in Food and Agriculture Law and Policy. He is a researcher and advocate for solving hunger by supporting communities in expanding local food systems, but his education and work in this area are now on pause as his main priority must shift to healing. Max is also a primary wage earner for his household of 5, so he and his family are now being forced to scramble not only to cover emergency medical bills, but also to pay for their regular living expenses while Max is unable to work.
The $50,000 goal aims to cover the following expenses:
$22,000 for hospital bills beyond what is covered by insurance
$10,000 for family housing expenses while Max is unable to work
$6,000 for health insurance deductibles
$4,000 for inpatient and in home physical therapy
$4,000 for towing, storing, and disposing of the totaled car
$1,000 for prescription medications
$1,000 for travel expenses incurred by family staying near Max while he was hospitalized hours from their home
$1,000 to replace Max's laptop so that he can return to work and school
$500 for copays for follow up care
$500 for wheelchair accessories and ramp
This fundraiser is being organized by Max's best friend who is helping organize logistics so that Max can focus on healing.
