Help Tommy Mahoney hit a home run against cancer
Donation protected
My cousin Trish has two wonderful kids, Lexi and Tommy, and I love to play Aunt V to both of them when I can. Recently, Trish and her ex-husband got news that their precious son Tommy has been diagnosed with a terrifying form of cancer called Burkitt’s Lymphoma, and will have to go through a very aggressive treatment plan which will include surgery and chemotherapy. No parent is mentally prepared to hear this news.
She shared "Sitting down to tell your 11-year-old that he has cancer was one of the hardest things we had to do. Our main focus as parents is, of course, Tommy, as well as his siblings-our kids, come first. He is in good spirits, but like us, he’s still processing. Children’s Hospital is amazing as always and have done a great job of explaining to him what cancer is, what his port will be like, and the process of Chemo".
"Many of you expressed concern from our first post last week and have reached out asking what could be done. We are so thankful for our friends and family. We will know more tomorrow as far as the treatment plan. Until then we ask for continued prayers. I am a strong believer in the power of prayer and believe there can never be too many. We may also ask for help with the siblings and their schedules. Several of you have approached me about meals. I think this would be a great help. A friend has already discussed setting up a meal train and we will post the details of that when I find out".
"Lastly, thank you for your understanding of what we may be going through. We have a lot of close friends and family, but emotionally just cannot call everyone individually, or have the energy to answer each text right away. Please know we are appreciative and will answer as soon as we can. Thank you, everyone, for your support".
They have a long road ahead of them! Unfortunately, Trish, a teacher and single mom, will have to take off "non-paid", for the next several months to take care of Tommy. The financial strain will be significant, but to keep Trish focused on Tommy and not worrying about how to pay the bills, family and friends are rallying to support her. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you, Veronica
