Helping those dealing with baby loss.

2020 has not been the year any of us expected. COVID has made this year harder than any of us could have imagined, but for some people life has changed irreparably. Many of you will already know that myself and my husband Ross have had a particularly hard year as sadly we have suffered two miscarriages. Going through baby loss is incredibly hard in any circumstances, but going through it during lockdown meant that support was more difficult to find - family and friends gave words of comfort but from a distance. I was forced to find an inner strength I didn’t know was there.

Throughout my many visits to the Early Pregnancy Unit this year, the staff were incredibly caring. However, I felt a sense of being sent home with the worst news, the world I knew tipped upside down, and having to deal with both the physical and emotional impact of it on my own.

Finding my inner strength was initiated by the kindness of a colleague, who bought me a book called ‘Saying Goodbye’ by Zoe  Clark-Coates. It was like door being opened for me. Without this act of kindness, I wouldn’t have discovered other books by the same author, and, as a result, I don’t think I would have processed my grief like I have. With this in mind, I now really want to ‘pay it forwards’ and do my bit for people going through a similar experience.

I feel I would have really benefitted from leaving hospital with one of these books, so that I could access it when I felt ready to and to guide me through all aspects of the loss.

So with that being said, I now want to help others going through a similar experience. I’m asking for donations so I can buy bulk copies of the books that I found so helpful. I’ll then donate them directly to the EPU so that women going through baby loss will hopefully be able to get the same level of comfort that I did from them.

The books I have found so helpful are;

Saying Goodbye by Zoe Clark-Coates

The Baby Loss Guide by Zoe Clark-Coates

Both of these books cost around £10, but any donations are welcome.

The support of others has got me through this experience and so if I can help others in any way, then it will mean something good has come out of this incredibly challenging time.
