Help the Veteran Dahart Family Overcome Medical Hardships

Hello, this is the Dahart family. Tragedy struck pre-pandemic, but the medical fallout has continued far beyond what we could have imagined. The medical bills, keeping up with life so that our son does not miss out on any opportunities, and the annual flare-up keep us one step behind. Our son barely remembers a time his mother was not sick. It took over 2 years to diagnose Crohn’s after a horrible doctor neglected to send my wife for the correct imaging she kept requesting. Her bowel ruptured after developing C. difficile, a condition caused by antibiotics she took to clear up a gut infection, and left her with a colostomy bag. What we later learned, that during that infection which required a 3-week hospital stay in isolation, she had endometriosis that spread through her abdominal cavity like wildfire, requiring a complete hysterectomy. This has led to major bone loss and is now attacking her back, with surgery pending. A microscopic organism nearly claimed her life at 40; please be careful with antibiotics, you just never know. Six years later, major career setbacks for us both, expensive drug treatments and infusions, we have emptied all of our 401k money to make it during hard times; at times leave pay was denied by insurance, or pay was cut for time lost. Every time she gets back up, a year later she gets knocked back down. We have exhausted all financial assistance.

We are begging for help after a heart attack and norovirus set her back 2 months, but she does not qualify for FMLA due to her length of current employment. My veterans benefits do not help cover these circumstances. I have never thought this would be us, asking our friends and extended family for financial assistance, but here we are, trying to make the bills, keep the lights on, and keep the creditors at bay. (Due to my wife’s career in banking and risk profiling, bankruptcy is not an option without losing her credentials.) After 6 years of continued medical battles, we are reaching out for help. Anything you can spare would help. $5.00, $10.00, one million dollars… . Please help us out of this never-ending cycle and finally get caught up. There are positives here though; the time has allowed her to be involved in our son’s school, to which he has excelled and is testing in the 99th percentile for Florida Math and 98th in English/Reading comprehension. We have also had some time to volunteer with cleanup efforts around Tampa Bay—go Team Seas!!! We are a giving family, but now we must ask for help. Please. Be kind. I know the surgical picture is a lot to handle, but just imagine, they had to cut her back open. Up that same scar, to resect her bowel. My wife has lived through immense pain, and continues to fight through every day to show up for our family.
