On May 5th, life as the McVicar family knew changed forever.
That morning, Dan’s kidney function had dropped to just 5%. Within hours, he was rushed into an emergency procedure where a catheter was inserted into his chest, connecting directly to his heart. That tube became his lifeline — allowing him to begin hemodialysis, the treatment that now keeps him alive until he can receive a life-saving kidney transplant!
Through it all, Ashley has been so strong— managing the home, caring for Tia and Boston, all while helping Dan through the toughest days. Ashley is working incredibly hard maintaining 2 jobs while also trying to provide some of their family normalcy. Dan and Ashley are striving for their 2 beautiful children to be able to continue their journeys with the least negative impact possible. With Boston pursuing his hockey passion, and Tia in college starting her future, these are already tremendous financial strains. Now, the McVicar family is left with only Ashley's income and a future of uncertainty with Dan's recovery. The emotional weight, constant uncertainty, and financial strain has been weighing on their shoulders.
We hope to raise funds so Dan's focus can be on getting healthy, NOT returning to work before he is well on the healing road to recovery.
His journey will continue to be unpredictable. He will continue to do his dialysis treatments at home 4-5x/week while pursuing a personal search to find a kidney donor!
With your help, we hope to allow Dan and family the chance to head in to transplant supported, healthy and with the most positive of scenarios to succeed!
This GoFundMe has been created to help ease the burden — to allow Dan to focus on healing, and for the McVicar family to breathe a little easier during this difficult chapter. Funds raised will help cover living costs, medical expenses, and the many hidden costs that come along with long-term illness.
Every donation, share, and message of support means the world to them. ❤️
Thank you for helping, this small army of 4, Dan, Ashley, Tia, and Boston as they face this battle together — with courage, faith, and love.
Also, please consider looking in to being a kidney donor ~ you never know if you could help save a life!
