3. Family retreat in Miriam’s memory for a bereavement weekend at Faith’s Lodge

The long version:


I don’t know if this is the right thing to do, asking others for assistance is so hard. What I do know is that we know a lot of wonderful, kind, caring people, both online and personally in our daily lives. I think it would be short-sighted to let years go by trying to do all these things on our own when we have a generous and loving community of people at our fingertips, so at the risk of hurting my pride and humbling myself before you, I have decided to just ask.


It has been a long and difficult 16 months of suffering and sorrow since our daughter Miriam Angelica left us unexpectedly at a day old. Most of the suffering in these types of losses happens at home, unseen, in the silence of the night, behind closed doors. It happens as tears are shed in the shower, in the car, in the pews at church, in bed during the early quiet morning hours. In the beginning your friends and family take care of you and your basic needs are met and that’s all you need. As time passes your long-term needs slowly come into focus,  and within a large family there are so many moving parts and contributing circumstances that the family and individual needs are hard to nail down and prioritize. I’m going to give it my best shot here, after taking stock of the current state of affairs amongst ourselves.


We are so grateful for all the help that was given to us at the beginning, without us ever having to ask for a single thing. It is my hope that now that we are able to ask for help with something specific, our community might come together for us once more.


We are at the point in our journey where we have done about as  much as we know to do to help ourselves in the healing process, and we know that at this point we need and are ready for professional help. We need it as individuals, as a couple, and as a family for our children. I believe it is an injustice to our children to have some of them so quickly approaching adulthood and they have not yet had the opportunity to speak to even one professional about the shocking loss our family experienced last year. It is one more thing that my mothering heart grieves on a daily basis.


With all of this in mind, we are asking for help so we can move along more smoothly on our healing journey. Funds received will be used for the following purposes, in this order:

3. Family retreat in Miriam’s memory for a bereavement weekend at Faith’s Lodge

If we are so fortunate to be overwhelmed with your generosity, our ultimate goal is to take our family to a place called Faith’s Lodge for a bereavement retreat weekend. Faith’s Lodge is a non profit that serves families who suffer from loss, and it is very inexpensive to attend the actual retreat. The expense in attending a retreat weekend for us is the transportation and time off of work for my husband, but I know our family desperately needs that time to reconnect and be together in our grief, in an environment that helps with healing in a supportive way. I feel like it’s a Really Big Thing to ask for, but I think we know a lot of people with Really Big Hearts.
