The Carriageworks started as a small craft shop showcasing local artisan talent on a sale or return basis. That was its original service and that was worthy enough....What happened? It grew.
Not only were the local folk of Denbigh, a town of survivors and good hearted folk with more than its fair share of mental health and social problems probably not least due to the proximity of an enormous asylum only 2 decades derelict, not only were the local folk lured by alpaca and slate products... Lynne gave them tea and cake and really bloody listened to them.
Lynne realised that loneliness cut to the heart of this Welsh market town and that company, tea, cake and crafts could go a long way to addressing some of society's ills. So Lynne formed a social enterprise and took on the Carriageworks in Love Lane; and brought this heritage building into community use as a cafe, gallery, shop, live music and arts venue and the top floor has a holistic meeting space for group work and a therapy room.
Lynne and her small group of dedicated volunteers have pulled out their collective tripe to give the town of Denbigh this gift, it's not an institution, it's not a tick box exercise, it's the home of free thought and unconditional acceptance.
Despite seeking grants it seems the radical space is not yet going to get institutional funds. This calls for a crowdfunder! If you live near Denbigh and you believe its spirit and soul needs a boost. If you believe in the power of arts and crafts; if your loneliness has ever displaced your marbles, if you like a bit of cake... then PLEASE drop a tenner into this pot. Even if you can't spare a penny you can still share and show your support that way. But if you have a tenner or ten... please give generously.
