Dear family, friends and folks on the internet:
I am initiating this GofundMe on behalf of my cousins, Michelle and Jonathan Ahrens who could use some love and support as we transition into 2026.
While out Christmas shopping in December 2025, Jonathan was in an accident on his motorcycle near San Dimas, CA. He was rushed to the hospital with a broken pelvis, two broken wrists, a partially broken jaw as well as various cuts, scrapes and bruises. After emergency surgery to repair his pelvis, Jonathan remains in the hospital awaiting surgery on his jaw. While the family remains eternally grateful Jonathan is now stable and the injuries were not more severe, the road to recovery will be long and will require near constant attention in the immediate future, leaving Jonathan without the ability to work while he recovers.
To further complicate matters, Jonathan’s wife Michelle is scheduled for surgery in late January - she is bravely undergoing a “paired exchange” of her kidney in support of her mother, Bebe (Frances) Hernandez-Wilbur. This paired exchange will allow another incompatible family pair to make a “swap” of kidneys, ultimately enabling Bebe to get a necessary kidney transplant. Our hope is that this brings an end to at-home kidney dialysis, which Bebe has triumphantly and bravely endured five times a week for over a year. After giving up her kidney, Michelle will need to be out of work for an extended period as she recovers, while also preparing to support Bebe once her transplant surgery takes place shortly after.
We had been anticipating the creation of this GFM to support the family during Michelle’s recovery from the kidney surgery, but Jonathan’s accident has added new urgency. The funds raised from this GFM will go to the cost of covering needed expenses for the family such as medical bills, rent, medical equipment costs and whatever else the family may need. We know time’s are tough so please do not feel obligated to donate - any well wishes or sharing this GMF with your networks would be greatly appreciated.
