I've been diagnosed with bone marrow cancer

Hi, this is Tala and his 3 fur siblings Mishka, Malakai, and Nemo's mama, Kim Shumaker Braeunig.I've been sick lately with what I thought was Covid. I ended up in the hospital with blood clots in my lungs. Because of a blood clotting issue I have the doctors decided to do a bone marrow biopsy.

When I got my biopsy results back,it was not the results I was hoping for, while it wasn't the worst thing that they could have been, they were not good either.

I have what are called Myeloproliferative neoplasms, bone marrow cancer, actually leukemia.

I've known I have had essential thrombocythaemia which is classified as a bone marrow cancer but isn't treated like most cancers are. It's mainly treating symptoms as they occur. Some people live their entire life with no symptoms at all. I actually learned because I was getting PRP treatment in the scars on my scalp to get my hair to grow back from the dog attack, and the nurse told me my blood was so thick she had to run it through the centrifuge 3 times to get the plasma to separate and I needed to get it checked out. While looking at my medical records from the previous 5 years, it was noted multiple times on my CBCs that I have very high platelets, but no one ever said anything about it to me.

Well, now there is evidence of scarring in my bone marrow, myelofibrosis. It's basically a chronic leukemia. It's in the early stage. Ironically, one of the biggest problems it causes is extremely low platelets. So my overproduction of platelets has now caused a condition that causes very low platelets. I will have to have Chemotherapy to get it under control, hopefully that happens fast. Then it's blood work, bone marrow aspiration and bone morrow biopsies, and bone scans for continued monitoring and treating symptoms as they appear.

If it does progress, it will be treated with regular chemo, radiation, and possibly a stem cell transplant.

Occasionally, it does progress to AML, Acute Myeloid Leukemia. That is extremely bad and very deadly.

I'm going to be out of work for at least 12 weeks.

I have to get my car repaired so I can drive for treatments.

Not being able to work is going to make it impossible to get the work done, and it will make it impossible to survive.

and I will do anything I have to do to take care of my 4 dogs, I will keep my 4 babies with me no matter what.
