Hi, my name is Devin. Two months ago my partner Sydney was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer called Myelodysplastic Syndrome or "smoldering" leukemia at age 26. Without treatment, this quickly progresses into the most aggressive form of leukemia, known as Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The only curative option that offers a chance at a long lifespan is a bone marrow transplant. In order to get this potentially life saving treatment we must move to a safe zone near Stanford medical center in Palo Alto while she undergoes treatment. Our income has been effectively cut in half, and as many who have lost loved ones may know, bills don't stop for tragedy. I will have to take at least 2 months of unpaid leave to be her caregiver while we are residing near Stanford during her treatment. We are asking for help to afford a rental for those two months as well as groceries, and other bills that would otherwise be covered by my normal paycheck. Furthermore without the bone marrow registry, the chance of us or any others who fall ill with Leukemia living normal, long lives is near-zero. If you want to join the registry, go to https://bethematch.org/ and sign up and have the chance of being someone else's match. If you are picked, the procedure is non-invasive, just like giving blood. The scope of the change you bring to this world will broaden with the steps you take to help strangers who may need you.
