Help Support Erin On Her Journey to Ghana

Hello Everyone!
It's Erin Faith. I am now a junior at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, double Majoring in Urban Studies and History. I am experienced in youth leadership and development, nonprofit coordination, and collaborative research. After graduation, I will obtain a primary and secondary teacher licensure to be a Social Studies or History teacher for middle school students.
This upcoming spring semester I have been granted an amazing opportunity to study abroad for the spring semester at the University of Ghana as a part of ISEP's Direct Global Engagement program in Legon, Ghana. The campus is located approximately 13 kilometers northeast of Accra, the capital of Ghana. I am very grateful to embark on this journey abroad as these past two years as a college student have been very challenging for me on a number of levels. I have been intentional about doing the work to understand myself and my purpose on this Earth. I am a Black woman growing to survive in the predominantly white environment of Rhodes. Therefore I am looking forward to a change of environment and hope to reconnect with my West African ancestors while also getting to know the Ghanaian people through their stories and observing their cultural practices and traditions.
I am very interested in African history as it is a part of African American history. While in Ghana, I hope to explore and understand urban experiences recounting their richness and complexities. As a history major, I can analyze the past and correlate it to the present. Classes such as African American History have taught me the skill of connecting historical events to present problems.
