Help Summer with her dream of a support dog

Hi , this is my wonderful daughter Summer. Due to the effects of covid, lockdown and isolation my beautiful daughter developed a very serious eating disorder, anorexia. She was diagnosed and hospitalised over Christmas and we were receiving amazing support from the Eating Disorders Team. Unfortunately, the anorexia was very strong and despite all our best efforts she continued to lose weight and again was hospitalised when she became extremely unwell, with her body struggling to survive and a feeding tube was fitted. She remained in hospital for a number of weeks while her body stabilised and we made the decision to bring her home with the feeding tube (I now do all her feeds ) with the support of our amazing community team while we face the difficult battle to get her starting to eat and drink again.

Summer is the most amazing young lady , she is facing many challenges that a girl her age shouldn’t. She has the most caring , beautiful nature , she loves art and reading. Her biggest worry is the impact her illness has on the people around her that love her so much !

Her wish is for a support puppy of her own. Due to her anxiety she needs a really special type of puppy that will help support her through her panic attacks and we all hope that it will help her start to eat and drink again. Unfortunately a rescue dog is not an option although we have explored that.

I had to reduce my hours as a staff nurse to enable me to give Summer all the care that she needs to get well.
