PLEASE SEE MY UPDATES FOR LATEST NEWS

The atrocities caused by the Russian invasion on Ukraine has brought incredible hardship on so many innocent people. The death and destruction that continues to be inflicted on such large numbers is horrific. The stories we have heard over the last few days and weeks are heart-breaking. Families are separated, children are separated, some are orphaned, there are horrific episodes of rape and abuse and millions of people have been displaced. Even the survivors’ lives have been changed forever, they have an unknown future, and in many cases their homes, neighbourhoods and towns and cities are destroyed.

Back at the beginning of March this year (2022) I had little idea of how the year would pan out for me and just how this would affect mine and many others lives. I was an infrequent user of social media and I guess like many people, had not really volunteered for any charitable work before as work and life generally filled all my days.

After meeting the guys at ‘Cornwall and Devon sending love to Ukraine’    things changed a tad! They are an enthusiastic and determined group of volunteers and are making a difference to a great number of refugees.

They have now sent over 50 vanloads of aid to Ukrainian refugees. There have been 4 large convoys and several solo vehicle trips. The aid is all from donations and is sorted, organised, and driven all by volunteers. The expenses are also funded entirely by donations and the volunteers.

The success of the generous donations that I have received on this GoFundMe scheme has enabled me to go twice, fund two other vans with my fellow volunteer Damon, as well as help and encourage others. The support has been amazing, and I would like to thank each and every one of you for your help.

The big journey is not over yet though. I intend to carry on for as long as funds allow and participate in the convoys, continue to collect the donated aid, and help with the cause. We have more volunteers waiting in the wings, and Cornwall and Devon sending love to Ukraine are doing such a fantastic job of collecting donations, that together with your help, we can do even more.

I will add to ‘Updates’ on here my latest plans and news.

PREVIOUS HEADER:
We’re going again!

There is still a massive need for help in Ukraine. The stories we have heard over the last few days and weeks are heart-breaking. Families are separated, children are separated, some are orphaned, there are horrific episodes of rape and abuse and millions of people have been displaced.

Damon and I have decided that because this, and because the last trip was so worthwhile and rewarding, we are again going to join the guys at the CORNWALL and DEVON SENDING LOVE TO UKRAINE  aid campaign.

But we need your help!

Our aim is to once again provide a fully funded van which we will load up with the donated items and deliver them to a dedicated aid centre in Warsaw, Poland. (Near to Ukrainian border). This is run by a wonderful young Ukrainian girl who is in the video of my previous update.

The main benefit of this type of help is that it immediately gets to the right people and places. The vans used are less than 3500kg and can avoid all the red tape and quickly and simply drive straight there.

The vans are still large enough to carry well over a tonne of cargo, like the largest one your Amazon / DPD delivery man/lady uses.

If we are successful and can raise enough money, we will take two vans again like last time. Your donations help to cover all the expenses of the trip including fuel, ferry fares, some basic accommodation and tolls etc.

The last convoy had 13 vans and they are hoping this next one at the end of May / beginning of June will be even bigger.

Both of us will also be collecting the donated items if you would like to contribute that way as well.

If we manage to collect excess funds, we will either buy more of the urgently needed items or use for future trips. (That will be a nice problem to have!)

We realise that times for all of us are challenging here, but with such relatively small effort we can help to make a big difference there.

Your donations, however large or small will help to make this happen. Please contact either of us with any questions.

THANK YOU.

Steve McEvoy and Damon Hunt.

sending love to Ukraine guide to donations
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From mid March:
Just a quick line to ask for your help.
After being inspired by ‘Darren’s cars’ posts and local BBC news item in the “Sending Love to Ukraine” appeal, I have decided to help and will be joining him soon. They have already made a trip which you can see on his Facebook pages.

We will be driving more vans to the Ukrainian border loaded to the gunnels with much-needed items donated to the appeal. For my part, I am hiring a van from a local rental company and joining Darren and his crew.
Although the van hire is at a preferential rate, I need help to fund the van hire costs, fuel costs, ferry crossings, and accommodation, to be self-sufficient and to avoid using the much-needed resources of their charity donations.
Any amount you can help me with from £1.00 upwards would be massively appreciated.
The next trip is planned for April 15th, and I will update my FB page with news and progress.
Please donate to my “Go fund me” page. All the donations will be used for my trip and possible further trips.

Please message or phone me for more details; they are also appealing for the items we will be carrying. These include First Aid & Trauma kits, Children's burn kits and the like. Also being collected are the 'Love in a bag' sets for mums with babies and toddlers, back to school satchels and other specific items. The Facebook site is regularly updated as they are in contact with the beneficiaries and don't want to collect unnecessary items. For example, no clothes are requested.

Thanks Guys
Steve
