Hi, my name is Sheri.

Nine months ago, I moved in with a man in Fort Myers, Florida. The relationship started off wonderful, but over time he became increasingly controlling. A few weeks ago, the abuse escalated and the police were called and he was arrested. My son flew down from Ohio, and together we packed what we could into a U-Haul and drove back north. I am safe now, staying with my son, but starting over has come at a steep cost.

The emergency move cost over $3,000 - a last-minute flight, U-Haul rental, gas for the 1,000+ mile drive, two nights in hotels, a storage unit, and replacing some items I had to leave behind. It wiped out our savings and I'm left sleeping on a mattress on the floor until we can find a cheap bed frame.

I've found a job and I'm working with a Survivors Advocacy Center to access assistance, but there's a gap while I wait for support to come through. I'm not asking for extra, I'm just trying to recover what we spent to get me to safety.
