Help Scott & Mindy Keep Their Home

In 2002, a distracted driver ran a stop sign. Scott was driving a company tool van and swerved to miss the car in the intersection. The impact sent the unsecured tools into the driver area. Scott suffered permanent nerve damage and learned to walk again during 3 weeks in a neurological unit at the hospital.
Scott and Mindy have been married for 13 years, and restored a century old farm house in the country. Since the accident, the nerve damage has caused spinal pain and difficulties. Fall of 2015, one ruptured disc reached a point of needing medical attention, and Scott received a series of injections to try to calm it. He had surgery to shave the bulged disc. By summer, the had completely disintegrated. In August, the disc was replaced, and for the next year, the pain from the synthetic disc joint and frayed nerves took over his day to day.
Fall 2017, there was Stens electrical stimulator trial that was to make his pain tolerable and offer normal function. Instead of blocking the pain, it had horrible crippling effects and had to be removed in the ER in 48 hours. Pain tremors developed in his arms and legs due to the crushed spinal nerves. He visited the ER constantly. Pain dangerously elevated his blood pressure. No doctor would deem Scott disabled, yet none would release him to return to work.
February 2018, he was diagnosed with severe nerve impingement causing entire left leg numbness and drop foot, due to the failed synthetic disc damage. It was removed, a 360-mechanical fusion was inserted. His scans revealed he had a dangerously enlarged kidney due to a pinched ureter tube. A stent was inserted into his bladder to allow drainage. After a summer of pain and ER trips, he was sent to OSU.
The stent was removed in October, and a nephrostomy tube was inserted so the kidney could try to heal. While waiting for surgery on December 21 he was admitted more than 6 times, fighting infection and pain. December 2018, he had surgery at OSU and doctors repaired the damaged kidney with a surgically created tube. They were able to begin the work of saving his kidney. Their high medical deductible started over January 1, and like many of us with high deductible plans, that means getting medical care can be very challenging.
As of May 2019, Scott has suffered a mini stroke due to the pain’s affect on his heart, and a recent kidney scan showed it is again enlarged and only functioning at 31%. Doctors have yet to decide the viability of the kidney. The pain is debilitating. Mindy cares for the kids, farm, and works full time, making $800 too much annually for a family of 5 to be eligible for Government Assistance. They are behind on their utilities and mortgage. Their daughter is graduating from high school this year. We want to get their bills current, and keep them from the immediate risk of losing their home.
