Help save iconic cordwood barn

Hi Everyone! Please consider helping restore a unique local cordwood barn built in 1948. Only a few meters from a popular roadway, it's impossible to miss 'the barn' when driving on Old Garden River Road in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Once a rural area, city expansion has resulted in a residential area growing around the barn.  Every day of the year, animal and photography lovers stop to admire this piece of history. Families in the nearby subdivisions regularly bring their young children to visit with the farm animals at the barn gate. The cordwood barn is badly showing its age and needs major repair. Because it was built without a foundation in a harsh northern climate the cordwood walls crack and crumble as a result of freezing and thawing. The roof leaks and the walls need to be replaced.  The barn, which is currently home to two horses and a donkey named Thelma, needs the engineering drawings and permit  ($4,500), a foundation and cord walls ($40,000), a new roof ($17,000) and new upper side walls ($10,000) . The owners continue to work daily to preserve their farm but they are seniors and don't have the financial resources to take on all these major repairs. They would be forever grateful if the barn could be restored before it reaches the point of no return.  Any little bit helps, even a single dollar! Please help preserve a beautiful piece of farming history and a place where locals can take a break and feel connected with welcoming furry friends. The organizers of this campaign will commit to covering the cost of the upper side walls and apply for any grants that can help leverage this effort (approximately 15% of the total cost of the project).
