Help Sally afford facial laser hair removal
Hello! My name is Sally Geiger and I'm a 26 year old trans woman in Michigan raising money for facial laser hair removal.
Dysphoria is a sneaky thing that I'd managed to live quietly with for most of my adult life, even though I didn't know how to name the feeling. Since high school, I'd perceived myself as this ugly thing, a perception I worked to make peace with by telling myself that ugliness is a virtue.
The peace that came was always short lived and temperamental. Ugliness may be a virtue, but I've realized in the past few years that seeing myself as ugly was slowly destroying me.
Since starting gender affirming hormone therapy in January of this year, my facial hair has been the most consistent barrier to my being able to live as my true self. I shave daily, but the shadow almost always shows through. I've learned different techniques to conceal it using make up (a combination of primer, color corrector, foundation, concealer, powder), but even then, little pricklies start showing up within five or six hours.
Beyond the hormones (for which I pay $100 a month), this will be the biggest financial investment I will have made yet in my transition. During the year, I teach English and study at Northern Michigan University for a small stipend, and I am employed now as a server at a local restaurant, but even with these sources of income the cost is quite prohibitive.
Transgender people are often portrayed as terribly sad and vain individuals in our journeys to be seen as who we are. Any change hurts a little, but the knowledge, the simple fact of knowing who and what I am has brought me to new heights of joy I was convinced I'd never know. I'm asking the community for help because I would not know those heights were it not for the compassionate and open minded people I grew up around, and the incredible femmes who've shown me the way.
Thanks for everything,
<3 Sally
*UPDATE* I've been calling around to a few medical spas near me, and so the updated goal reflects the price of 8 sessions at Lakeshore Skin and Body.
