Hello, I’m Russell Brooks, and I’m the author of four thrillers. Jam Run will be the second book in the Eddie Barrow Mystery series and my fifth novel. I hope to get it published by spring 2023 and make it available everywhere.

 

Jam Run is different from my previous novels, as it deals with anti-gay laws in the Caribbean and how they harm society as a whole. This is a topic that I am passionate about. My goal is not only to entertain but also to raise awareness.

 

Synopsis

Within hours of arriving in Montego Bay, Eddie Barrow and his friend Corey Stephenson witness a gruesome murder outside a bar. When the victim’s sister reaches out for help, they learn of machinations to conceal foreign corporate corruption and a series of horrific sex crimes. However, Barrow and Stephenson’s commitment to solving the case is put to the test once they find themselves in the crosshairs of a ruthless criminal network—one that extends beyond the shores of Jamaica.

What inspired me to write this story

When social and systemic barriers exist to the extent that victims and witnesses of hate or sex crimes are discouraged from coming forward, it empowers the abusers. I’m appalled at the level of social acceptance of the ‘Buggery Law’ and other similar laws in the Caribbean. Vilifying a community with discriminatory laws has repercussions on society. These are some of the roadblocks that Eddie and Corey encounter that complicate their attempts in getting justice for the victim.

 

Homophobic hate crimes and sexually-based offenses—that took place in Jamaica and in other countries—were researched over the past several months. Even though Jam Run is a work of fiction, it is inspired by real-life events. For me, it is important that this story be told. Your pledge can make this happen.
