Help relieve suffering - support palliative care

Donation protected
Hi!

My name is Camilla Börjesson and I am a Swedish specialist palliative care nurse who love my job working with the most vulnerable of our patients, the patients who have a non-curable disease like cancer and have very limited time left to live.

I´m blessed to live and work in Sweden where we do have so much recourses in our health system that allows me to most often provide what the patients need.

But I also work in Guinea, West Africa. Where the care for the vulnerable super sick patients looks so very different. There is barely no cancer treatment and there is no morphine for the pain. There is no funds in the country health budget to provide palliative care for the vulnerable dying patients who often are left in hospitals or in their homes alone in pain without hope.

Imagine having cancer in your breast but without any help with dressings or pain medication…that is the reality for so many patients  in Guinea.

Or imagine my little friend Grace three years old with retinoblastoma in her right eye lob crying in pain because of no pain treatment. When we started to visit her we could offer her pain medication and she started to eat and sleep and play again. These stories and many more comes from today´s West Africa. Patients in severe pain are left with no pain medication.

I'm not fundraising for myself of course but for SOPAG, the team I work very close with in Guinea

This small team that call themselves SOPAG (soins de palliatif du Guineé) are a voluntary organization that works in the country of Guinea with Palliative care.  They do home visits to patients diagnosed and dying with cancer or other non-curable diseases. They provide pain medicine and holistic care to the patient and its family and continue to do so during the rest of the patients life until death. They have the courage to meet with patients and families in a very distressing time. They share life and death with patients and they give hope. The care does not stop when the patient dies but continues with visits to the family who are bereaved.

They also visit the hospitals regularly to teach medical staff about the need for palliative care, they educate and advocate for the care that so many Guineans need but unfortunately so few receive. They are breaking new grounds and I welcome you to be part of making history in Guinea by donating today.

Together we are slowly changing the care for the dying in Guinea by offering holistic care with symptom relief which reduce suffering and provide a realistic hope not for a cure but for pain relief and comfort, but we need help with funds.

You can be part of this by donating big or small, every bit counts.

Your help financially would help SOPAG tremendously to provide medication to the patients who suffers alone in their homes.

The money will go to medication, dressings to wound care, transportation to the patients homes and sometimes to food for the patients or to families who are bereaved.

Help SOPAG to help their people from suffering!

Please feel free to also share this post to others

I´m happy to give you more information if you would like to:-)

Thank you so much!

Sincerely
Camilla
