Help Refugees Settle In Stoughton

We are the Stoughton Resettlement Assistance Program (SRAP), an informal collective of community members working to provide financial support to refugees and help them settle in Stoughton. We formed in December, 2021 to initially sponsor Afghan families.  Now that most of those families have been placed in other communities around the US, we have turned our attention to other refugees fleeing war, violence and destruction in their countries.  Beginning late May, we have resettled Ukrainian families in our community, and we are hoping to help more.  We are very much open to serving other refugees who have been waiting years to enter the US and start new, safe lives.  We are working alongside Lutheran Social Services Refugee Resettlement Agency, as well as refugee services to match families to our community.

Members include Renee Lushaj, Sharon Mason-Boersma, David Sharpe, Laura Roeven, Robert Roeven, Jean Ligocki, Jenni Young, John Young, Mary Hanson, Judy Turnbull, Eric Swenson, Diane Swenson, Jill Hauk, Dayna Verstegen, and Kay Weeden.

 

Our financial goal is to assist refugee families to pay for housing, household essentials, transportation, and more.  In addition we help them find and apply for jobs, apply for work permits, social security, driver's licenses, health services, school enrollment, ESL classes, immigration paperwork, community activities and more.  The treasurer of SRAP will disburse funds directly to landlords and utility companies, and to other pertinent services.
