Last year, I discovered a large thyroid nodule and underwent a biopsy, which initially came back benign. Despite the results, the nodule was growing and causing concern, so I made the decision to have it removed. After surgery, further testing revealed that the nodule contained four different types of thyroid cancer. In addition to this, I have Hashimoto's, which has made managing my health even more challenging. My surgeon now recommends removing my thyroid as a preventative measure to ensure no cancer develops on the other side. This next surgery is scheduled for the end of February, and with it comes another round of medical expenses.
I feel incredibly grateful that the cancer was caught early and that the nodule was removed before I even realized it was cancerous. While I am thankful for my situation and the care I have received, I am unfortunately not in a place to afford these costs on my own. The costs from last year already reached my deductible, and now I am facing another significant financial hurdle to meet this year's deductible for the upcoming thyroidectomy. The funds raised will go directly toward paying off last year’s medical debts and covering the costs of my upcoming surgery. This support will help me focus on my recovery and health, rather than the financial burden that comes with these procedures.
On top of these medical challenges, I went through a separation last year and am now supporting myself and the boys on a single income. The financial strain has been immense, and having support from the community after a year full of personal and medical challenges would mean the world to me.
