Help Provide Warm Beds for Eugene's Homeless
Beschermde donatie
Hello, my name is Delilah. My grandma on my mother's side was a homeless woman in Eugene, OR. She passed in a sleeping bag due to hypothermia. From the story I remember growing up, my grandma ran away very young with my grandpa, who was already an adult. My grandma had schizophrenia along with drug addiction; this caused her sooner rather than later to be a victim to the streets. I later on in life had a friend who also passed in the streets due to addiction. He was very young, and I know there were many nights where they both slept on cold cement and woke up in puddles as it rains so much.
As much as I’d love to give everyone a home, I know that it’s not a realistic goal. I started brainstorming and doing some searching, and I came across foldable cots and pull wagons. $5000 could get us started with 60 beds and 60 wagons. The wagons would be a great alternative to shopping carts getting stranded and left and could give them a more practical sense of security and comfort while transporting their belongings. This is just a starter number.
I really hope to raise more and more to hopefully help supply the whole state and maybe even the country. These cots are an amazing way to keep people dry and warm. EVERYONE deserves a warm place to sleep. Even if you can’t donate, please share and spread the word. Sometimes to make a change, you have to start small. God Bless ❤️
