Hello, friends! My name is Kashi. I am the Poet Laureate of Dogs and Bringer of Big Love and Joy to all the world. I’ve had a troubly adventure recently. I had a big thing growing on my body that was not a good big thing. My mamas called it a tumor. They said it would make me well to get it out, so I had a big surgery. The surgery was successful!

But even though my mamas and all the doctor people took very good care of me, I got an infection and the boo-boo came apart in the middle and they had to put on a very big huge special bandage. I had to go back to the doctor every few days for many weeks for very big special bandage changes and take medicine. I insisted they put it in cat food. I really, really like cat food.

I actually really like going to the doctor too because I announce myself as the bringer of love and joy and I love everyone and everyone loves me and takes very good care of me. My mamas say I am the perfect dog and it seems like everyone agrees. I don’t mean to brag. I just really love giving love and being loved.

What I do not like is not being allowed to play with my brother Magic or go on walks. I even have to be on leash in the backyard! My doctor calls it strict activity restriction. I do not like it but I understand I have to be very calm for my boo-boo to heal, so I am very patient. Magic has been very sad though, because he wants to play with me and go on walks together again. Mamas say, “Soon, babies!”

After the longest-longest time, which Mama says was six weeks, the doctor did another small operation that made it possible for my boo-boo to heal the rest of the way. It was all very complicated. I don’t know what all the medical words mean, but I do know that that part is done! I feel great! And my very good friend Dr. Sutton says just one more week of very strict activity restriction to heal up the last teeny tiny part of the boo-boo, and if everything goes super duper wonderfully well, which I happen to know it will, I will be FREE! It will be eight weeks then, which I think is about 4,963 days. I cannot WAIT for rompety-romps and zoomie-zooms with my Magic and walkies with my mamas and sniffing everything-everything-everything in the yard with NO LEASH! More poems, more wags, more joy!

There’s just one more thing to talk to you about. I’m a little worried for my mamas because they have been working so hard to take perfectly perfect care of me, and we did not expect I’d have so many trips to the doctor and big special bandage changes. My mamas talk about it quietly, but I know paying for all of this is a hardship for them. I don’t want hardship for them. They saved my life with this surgery and they give me and Magic the most joyful life in the world.
