Help get Bob home!

Hello friends! Please get comfy because I have a story to tell and a big ask! It all started exactly six months ago…. While in the Dominican Republic, I was passing through a small town and came across a dog lying on the sidewalk who was clearly in bad shape. He was unable to move, malnourished, very weak and sick. The first noticeable thing was the tremendous amount of puss coming from his nose, so he had an infection of some kind. But as bad as he appeared, he looked at me with eyes full of love, and his tail found the power to pound against the sideway as I pet him. He was relieved that someone had noticed him and was asking for help. I instantly fell in love and could not let him down. A local shopkeeper agreed to let me tie him in the shade nearby so I could return daily with food and medicine. That worked for two days, but on the third day, he had been untied and was nowhere to be found. I felt just awful…. After returning each day for several days, I finally spotted him lying on the street not far from where I initially found him. This time I scooped him up and put him in my car. I drove him around for hours, looking for a vet who would treat him and keep him overnight. This was no easy task. After driving from town to town for the entire day, I finally found a vet who would take him in. This was the beginning of Bob’s journey of vet visits, treatments, and surgeries….
Bob is a warrior who has survived a tough life on the streets for years. His body is covered in old battle scars, as well as signs of surviving some serious illnesses, including distemper. But Bob’s will to survive was unbeatable.

Once at a vet, Bob was given a month of treatment to clear up his persistent sinus infection. Poor Bob has a pretty wonky mouth full of unhealthy teeth, including a canine tooth so sharp that it was poking a painful hole into his face. Also, two fistulas were discovered on the roof of his mouth. These holes were allowing food and water to get stuck in his nose and causing the chronic nasal infection. The extent of his issues was overwhelming, but one thing was clear… Bob wanted to live! He didn’t care if that meant being shuffled from vet to vet, being crated, poked and prodded; he was just so happy to be safe. His joyful, positive, and gentle spirit blew me away.

When it was time for me to return to Canada, Bob was unfortunately not ready to travel. Everyone who met Bob fell in love with him, and he has had INCREDIBLE people step up to help him. Thanks to some wonderful human friends in the DR, Bob’s care has continued for the last five months. To date, Bob has had eight teeth removed, as well as two surgeries to close the fistulas; he has been neutered, vaccinated, and had a plethora of blood tests, x-rays and CT scans on his mouth. One fistula has stayed closed, but unfortunately, the other opened after both surgeries. The fact that one fistula has not closed successfully is disappointing…. but he is super healthy, happy and infection free. The decision has been made not to perform any more surgeries but to create a plan to help him live with the fistula in the best way possible. It was time for Bob to leave the vet clinic finally. Because of the fistula Bob would never survive for long on the street, so a real home had to be found.
Once again, Bob hit the jackpot, and another human angel appeared for Bob! This lucky old boy is being adopted in Canada by a dear friend who is going to spoil him rotten for the rest of his life. Sherry Burnett (the founder of Ruby Ranch Pig and Farm Sanctuary) saw a photo of Bob and fell in love. He has had such great luck so far with so many good people who have stepped up to help him. But he needs a few more…. The BAD NEWS is all his vet care in the DR has added up. So Sherry and I need to raise a total of $4000 CND to pay his final vet bill and get him HOME. The bill is huge, much more than anticipated, so we are asking for help.
We have a spot for him to fly to Canada on September 7th, but we NEED to raise the money to pay his vet bill, and we NEED your HELP! Bob needs some more guardian angels! If possible, please help by donating to get Bob to his dream home where he can live the rest of his days in peace and surrounded by love.
