Help Paisley's Fight Against A Brain Tumor

Hello Friends,
On 1/13/2021 Paisley was checked into Presbyterian hospital for diagnostic testing to hopefully rule out a few reasons why she was having some unusual symptoms. On 1/14/21 the source of her illness was found. Paisley was diagnosed with a large brain tumor located in her cerebellum. She needed to have an operation. She was transferred to UNMH and underwent brain surgery on 1/18/21 to remove the tumor. The great neurosurgical team was able to remove most of the tumor. However, a small amount of the tumor could not be removed due to its proximity to the brainstem. The tumor has been identified as a grade 1 pilocytic astrocytoma. This type of tumor is slow growing, and outcomes are usually good in the long term.
While recovering in the pediatric ICU (PICU) at UNMH her heart rate was dropping extremely low at night, and even briefly stopped one night giving us quite a scare. Paisley’s heart has been checked out by the cardiology team. The doctors believe that abnormal heart rate was caused by swelling near the brain stem. Her heart rhythm has mostly normalized at this point.
After 17 days in the hospital, 12 of which were in the PICU, we were able to bring Paisley home! Paisley is currently recovering well after the surgery. She is enjoying playing with her brother August, being home, and just being a kid.
We have started this Go Fund Me page to help raise funds for Paisley’s medical bills. We will meet with the oncology team soon to discuss the best course of treatment for the residual tumor. In addition to whatever oncology decides, Paisley will have frequent MRIs over the next months and years to monitor the brain and growth of the tumor. Please help Paisley’s fight against the brain tumor.
