Support Needed for Critical Gender Affirming Surgeries

Hello,

I really hate asking for help again, but I don’t know what else to do.

I am non-binary/transgender and have extremely significant gender dysphoria. I have had top surgery so far and have been on hormones as well. Over an excruciating process of introspection I’ve realized I need to have further gender affirming surgery.

The surgical team I’m working with is half-way across the country. And even though they are in-network with my insurance, the out of pocket costs are extensive. While there are some surgeons who are closer, they are either less experienced, don’t offer the services I need, or have extremely long wait times (think 2027-2029 for a CONSULT).

So, I’ve decided that although it’s a huge financial burden, my only option is to travel to a red state (cruel irony) 4+ times (depends on potential complications etc.) over the next 18 months or so (with stay times ranging between 1-4 weeks). My dysphoria is so significant I can’t imagine waiting years to get a foot in the door. I can’t imagine not getting this procedure either.

My first stage was earlier this year and the total cost was around $6,000. Around $3,500 for the healthcare itself, and the rest was travel costs, including plane fare for me and the person taking care of me, lodging, ride-shares, and medical equipment. That number does not include the lost wages from being unable to work while recovering (4-6 weeks), and I am mostly self-employed and have a physically intensive job.

I have been working tirelessly to earn and save money, however it’s been extremely difficult since I have various mental/physical health conditions. For a variety of reasons my parents have limited ability to help financially. I also do not earn enough to qualify for TDI etc.

I don’t expect to reach my fundraising goal but truly anything will help and be greatly appreciated. And might help me breathe a little easier. I didn’t want to make a GoFundMe because this is so deeply personal, however please share if you can because I really need all the support I can get.
