A month ago, Moniqua walked into surgery expecting to lose a fibroid. She walked out having lost far more — and facing the fight of her life.

If you know Moniqua, you know she’s a force of nature — a powerhouse on any stage and the fiercest friend you’ll ever have, the one who shows up with a hug, a pep talk, and more energy than should be legal. You also know she never asks for anything in return. On May 6th, an emergency surgery meant to remove a fibroid revealed something far rarer and more serious: leiomyosarcoma, one of the rarest cancers in the world.

For the first time in her life, Moniqua needs to lean on the people who love her — and we’re not about to let her do this alone.

The Good News

And there is good news. During surgery, doctors fully removed the tumor, and nothing has spread. Because it was caught this early, Moniqua has a genuinely strong chance of beating this.

Pathology did reveal a small amount of residual cancer cells, so Moniqua faced a choice: wait and see, or fight aggressively now. If you know her, you already know which one she chose. Moniqua started chemotherapy on June 25th while also pursuing integrative therapies to support her immune system, keep her body strong, and help her heal as fully as possible. She is not leaving anything on the table.

Where Your Money Goes

While we're grateful chemotherapy is covered by insurance, all of the treatments and supportive therapies that will help her get through this well — that will keep her body strong, her immune system supported, and her quality of life intact — aren't covered at all.
