Help our beloved teacher Miros

During our stay in Samara, Costa Rica, we have become close friends with one of Keio and Skye’s teachers from school. Her name is Miros (Miroslava Elizabeth Castro Garcia) and she is truly one of the kindest, most loving and generous souls you will ever meet. Our kids adore her. She is a single mother to an incredibly sweet 10 year old son named Eduardo. Originally from Venezuela, they fled to Costa Rica a year and a half ago in order to escape the political, economic and social unrest in their county. Their experiences are countless but one in particular haunts us, that of Eduardo having a gun held to his head at the age of six during a robbery. Picturing this kid, any kid, facing this kind of violence is heartbreaking. Miros just wants to raise a happy child with a bright future.

Since arriving in Costa Rica, she has become an integral member of the local community as an elementary school teacher and martial arts instructor. They are happy and thriving here, however their political asylum status has been denied and they just found out that they face deportation by the end of March if they can not rectify their status. In order to do this, they need to raise approximately $5000 to cover legal and travel related costs. Miros is currently doing everything she can to make money (i.e., babysitting, catering, teaching martial arts, teaching at the school, etc), but despite being one of the hardest working individuals we have ever met, it is realistically impossible for her to raise the money here in Costa Rica without assistance.

That is why we thought to reach out to all of our caring (and generous!) friends and family at home. Anything you can give helps. If we can garner just this little bit of help for her, she can secure a safe life for her son. Thank you so much for your consideration.

Quick note about how the funds will be accessed. Costa Rica is not a host country with Gofund me so the funds will be deposited into our Canadian account and then transferred directly into Miros' account here in Costa Rica. We will transfer the funds at the end of February so that they can be used for her legal and travel expenses in March.
