Help Nayu stay in the UK

Summary: Help Nayu to come to back to UK, paying their immigration health surcharge and visa application costs.

Hi all,

So the time has come for Nayu to say goodbye to the UK, the country they have truly become themselves in, and spent their entire adult life in. Some of you already know that Nayu had to leave because their visa ran out but may not know just how hard Nayu has been working to ensure that they can get another visa and try to come back here for good. In recent months Nayu has been working over 70 hours per week at various low paid jobs just to pay for things like documents for health checks, endorsements, flight to Korea, storage/shipping, with of course the cost of living and helping others in need too. Trying to juggle this while pursuing an art practice and with rent in arrears has made the dream of getting back here without help less possible by the day. It has been difficult for Nayu as they don't often talk about their worries, and they have always been too proud to ask for help and too humble to think these problems are a worthy enough cause. Nayu has nothing to fall back on, no financial stability, no family with any money, and so we have decided to help in the only way we really can and try and get this visa done on Nayu’s behalf.

In Korea Nayu is trying to find work to afford to come back home to the UK and has also worked hard to finally gain an endorsement for a Global Talent Visa. I’m sure you all get that it’s so unfair for people like Nayu to have to leave what is essentially their home country, and a place that has shaped their life, full of the people that they love, just because of immigration laws. not only has Nayu been forced to sort all this out under threat of never living in the UK again but they have lost precious time that they could have been spending on making the amazing art that they are known for. Nayu couldn't make much artwork or do any shows since summer (in which they created an amazing degree show - in their bedroom during lockdown might we add!) which is a huge shame because this could have been a crucial time for them to thrive as an artist.

The visa they are trying to apply for is called Global Talent Visa, they already hold an endorsement from the British Arts Council, which is a stage 1 for this visa process. They now only have just over 1.5 months to apply for this visa before the endorsement expires (FYI a Marriage visa is not an option as the process, including application costs, is way more expensive than any other option, and is a lot harder to get).

Nayu has lived in London since the age of 19, so this really is their home. And I think you can agree that they brought something really special to our community and the art world. They always try to make everyone feel welcomed and happy; there is no doubt that many of us have taken a lot from Nayu’s presence and contribution. As Nayu has no real life in Korea, it is sad that they don't know they will be able to come back, and all because of their financial situation.

We are aiming to reach £3932 as that is the application cost + exactly how much immigration health surcharge will cost and this is the biggest chunk of the visa process in general, so excluding any other costs that go into the visa application process. (I think it costs around £5000 for the whole visa process) Some may not be aware that visas do cost a lot of money and this is Nayu’s 5th visa application to enter the U.K in the last 10 years. Nayu has always worked hard to sort it out themselves; they saved for years to pay for their tuition fees for their master’s degree with a loan, on top of the loans they got for their BA. Nayu often makes out like they are coping financially but that is because they are always generous and have continually worked hard in often poorly paid jobs since they were really young.

Please help Nayu come back to the place where they have a future, and can continue making art. Please let Nayu continue to spread their beauty and joy to all of us. If you’re reading this and you think your life would be better with Nayu in it, please consider donating whatever you can afford, even if it’s just a few quid. If you make a bigger donation of around £100 pounds, I’ll (harry) make you an amazing t-shirt, as a way to say thank you, and I’m sure Nayu will make you something too!

Thank you for reading this, I know it is a really tough time for everyone, but anything given will be so helpful to reach their goal, and please consider the fact that Nayu has always been the one who has helped others in situations like this, and we hope that this time they will finally manage to get the help they need.

Love to all,

Harry and Jack
