Help Nash Keep His Eyes

Donation protected

As all “good boys” are, Nash is my best friend. Early in life he was diagnosed with diabetes and Endocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), which requires him to be on a strict diet and get two insulin shots daily. As a result of his diabetes, Nash developed cataracts within a week of being diagnosed. He is now 90% blind but doesn’t let that stop him! He is very smart and navigates his surroundings so well you might not notice his blindness when you first meet him (if you don’t see the cataracts first)!

After his diagnosis and development of the cataracts, I kept my commitment to care for Nash because I love him and would do anything for him. Even though insulin and pancreatic enzyme powder are expensive, I have adjusted and learned how to manage his diseases so he can be a healthy, playful, and truly happy boy.

While his diabetes is under control, his cataracts can develop into glaucoma which is extremely painful, incredibly expensive, time consuming, and difficult to manage. Glaucoma is irreversible and most veterinarians recommend enucleation (removal) of the eyes or euthanasia due to the overwhelming pain and low quality of life that comes from the glaucoma.

Before adopting a dog, I could have only imagined how horrific and unfair it would be to watch your puppy go through something like this. However, I am being faced with this helpless scenario now. Nash’s vet has informed me that his cataracts are maturing and nearing glaucoma. Surgically removing his cataracts could help him avoid it and potentially give him full sight back.

Nash will be 2 on February 1st. For the past year and a half Nash has responded well to his diabetes treatments and has been the happiest pup. He still has many years of quality life left and I want to be able to give that to him. Being able to afford surgery to help him keep his eyes would change his life, and honestly mine too. I want him to live his long healthy life getting to see the beauty in the world and don’t want to resort to removing his eyes after a long period of painful suffering with glaucoma. If I can’t take action now, things for Nash will only get worse.

Unfortunately, on a single teacher’s salary this is not something I can afford on my own. It is nearly impossible to save money with the incredibly high cost of his daily insulin and pancreatic enzymes. I have managed to find the means for these things because I remain strong in my commitment to my best friend and will continue to do so for as long as I can, but the cost of surgery is outside of my means.

I’m asking for your help to save Nash’s eyes, because I can’t do it on my own. If you find it within your heart and your means to donate, you would be helping to save his eyes and quite possibly his life. I thank you for willingness to give and I would be forever grateful for your help in saving my best friend.
