Help Gaza family to begin again in Egypt
Dear friends of Nahed
I’m reaching out to ask for urgent support for the Ibrahim family, who are in a critical window of opportunity to rebuild their lives in Egypt after surviving the devastation in Gaza.
Reem, Nahed's wife, has a chance to enrol in a Master's program in Education Administration this September. If successful, this will not only grant her a study visa and legal residency, but also grant Nahed the ability to work and support their children, who would then be eligible for public education and healthcare. It’s the key to long term stability and self sufficiency for the entire family.
Noor is in her final year of school and is determined to continue her studies in science and English at university next year. Reem is equally passionate about using her education to give back and help others rebuild.
The family needs to raise the remaining funds before September 10–15, when university registration opens.
Even small amounts shared between us could make this possible.
Thank you for being part of this journey with them
Dear World ,
My name is Jess, and I want to share the story of Reem and her family because it's one that needs to be heard. They need help, and hearing them out is the least we can do.
From my home in Australia, I've been talking to Reem and her husband regularly over video calls for the past few months. Each time, I'm reminded of the harsh reality they face—Reem's husband in Gaza with sirens blaring, explosions rocking the area, and scenes of destruction around him, and Reem in Egypt, navigating a foreign country on her own while caring for their children.
Reem and her family have been through a tremendous ordeal. They used to run a beautiful café by the beach in Gaza, a business they put their hearts into, until it was mercilessly destroyed, as was their home, leaving the lives they'd built together in ruins. Now, Reem's husband is not only struggling to survive violence and famine, but he's also separated from his loved ones.
Reem, along with her two daughters, two sons, and a nephew who has been taken in as their own son, found temporary refuge in Egypt for urgent medical care. Their nephew suffered severe eye trauma, causing loss of vision, when their home was hit during the night. He is in dire need of surgery, and without it, he risks losing his vision permanently. This surgery is their top priority.
Despite immense challenges, thanks to the aid of generous people who gave what they could, we managed to raise enough funds to get Reem's husband registered for travel, bringing him one step closer to reuniting with his family. However, the border closures have now left him stranded in Gaza, facing uncertainty and struggling to meet his basic needs. He lacks essentials like food, clothing (he only has one set), and funds that will be needed for essential travel within Egypt.
Your support can make a world of difference for Reem and her family. Your donation through GoFundMe is securely managed. As funds are not accessible in Gaza, donations will be deposited to an Australian bank account in my name. From there, I will transfer the money to Egypt, for Reem to collect in person. This money will provide them with the essentials they desperately need, cover medical expenses for their nephew's surgery, and ultimately facilitate the family's safe relocation, where they can begin to rebuild their shattered lives.
We have decided to set several smaller goals to individually fund each step in the process and celebrate every accomplishment.
Every contribution, no matter the size, is a beacon of hope for Reem and her family. Thank you for considering being a part of this journey. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and show that compassion knows no borders.
