Help My Sweet Girl Get Urgent Surgery

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your help. My sweet dog, Olivia, who means absolutely everything to me, has been fighting for her life over the past few days. What started as lethargy, a swollen belly, and rapid breathing quickly turned into something much more serious. Trusting my instincts, I rushed her to the emergency vet, where they performed a thoracentesis and removed 800ml of fluid from her lungs. It was heartbreaking to see her so weak, but I was hopeful that she was on the road to recovery.

Unfortunately, her condition worsened. After more tests and conversations with the veterinary team, I found out she has pyothorax — a severe, life-threatening infection in her chest. They suspect it could be caused by a foreign object like a foxtail, an abscess, or even cancer. The only chance to save her is immediate, aggressive treatment.

She’s currently hospitalized at SAGE Veterinary Center in Dublin, CA where she’s receiving around-the-clock care. Tomorrow, she will undergo an exploratory thoracotomy — a major surgery where they will open her chest to clean out the infection, inspect her lungs, and try to find the root cause. She’ll have a chest tube placed and require critical monitoring in the ICU for several days.

The cost for this lifesaving care is estimated between $21,567.58 and $32,565.75. Insurance helped cover her emergency visit on Saturday ($3,005.08) but for this next phase, they can only cover $4,000 — and the rest will be out-of-pocket.

I would move mountains for Olivia. She’s not just a dog — she’s my family, my emotional support, my best friend, my constant companion through life’s hardest and happiest moments. She has been there for me through times when no one else was, offering unconditional love, loyalty, and comfort.
