Help My Son Get an Electric Trike for More Summer Adventures

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out with a humble heart to ask for your help in giving my son something truly meaningful—an electric tricycle that will allow him to continue experiencing the joy and freedom of being outdoors, something that means the world to him.

I’m raising funds to help buy an electric trike for my soon-to-be 14-year-old son, who is a nonspeaking, high-needs autistic teen who absolutely loves being outdoors. For the last three years, we’ve been using a scooter together—he stands on the front while I drive from behind. It’s been our freedom. We’ve explored miles of trails all over Red Deer, gone off-road, and discovered places we’d never be able to reach otherwise.

But now that he’s getting older and bigger, it’s no longer safe. He’s too tall for me to see around, and I just can’t keep us both safe on the scooter anymore. Unfortunately, he can’t ride a bike independently—he struggles with road safety and doesn’t understand traffic or how to navigate trails on his own.

That’s why we’re hoping to get an electric trike with two seats—something built for families like ours, offering the stability, space, and support we need to keep exploring together.

These trikes can cost $4,000 or more, and unfortunately, the funding programs we’ve tried don’t cover this kind of equipment. So I’m turning to our community for help.

This isn’t easy for me to ask. Like most parents, I want to be able to give my son everything he needs on my own. But I’ve come to see that there’s strength in asking for help—and sometimes the most caring thing we can do is reach out, especially when the journey is bigger than what we can manage alone.
