Help My Injured Father and Younger Siblings Survive in Gaza

My father and two of my youngest siblings (aged 8 and 10) are still trapped in Gaza. After surviving multiple airstrikes and repeated displacement, they are now struggling to survive in Al-Mawasi, the so-called “humanitarian zone,” where food, water, and medicine are nearly impossible to find. My father was recently injured and needs urgent medical care that the collapsed public health system cannot provide.

I am raising funds to cover his treatment and to secure food, shelter, and basic needs for my siblings — so they can survive.

My name is Hanaa Salah. I am a Palestinian freelance journalist from Gaza and currently a Master’s student in Economics and Finance at the University of Leeds, UK. For years, I worked as a journalist and humanitarian professional in Gaza, documenting the suffering of my people and supporting humanitarian aid efforts on the ground. I never imagined I would one day have to write this appeal for my own family.

Since October 2023, my family has endured relentless airstrikes, the destruction of our home, and repeated displacements. Earlier in 2024, part of my family and I were evacuated from Gaza after months of unimaginable suffering. Part of the cost of that evacuation was covered through a previous GoFundMe campaign, and I am profoundly grateful to everyone who made that possible.

But my father — who refused to leave Gaza — and my two younger siblings remain trapped. They are now surviving in Al-Mawasi, where conditions are dire: food is scarce, clean water almost impossible to find, and medicines have disappeared.

My father’s injuries, along with my siblings’ young ages, make their survival even more urgent. They need immediate help to cover medical treatment, access food and water, and maintain even the smallest degree of dignity in a place where everything has been stripped away.

I am raising £10,000 to support their urgent needs:

Medical costs for my father’s treatment, rehabilitation, and follow-up care.

Food, clean water, and essential supplies that are scarce and unaffordable.

Support for my siblings, including clothing, school materials, and basic needs.

Shelter and transportation during repeated displacement.

I never imagined I would be the one asking for help. As a journalist, I have always used my words to speak for others — to share their struggles, their resilience, and their cries with the world. But today, it is my own voice that trembles as I ask for help for my injured father and my two young siblings still trapped in Gaza.
